Snorkeling At Kauai's Anini Beach

Hawaii offers many multiple places to snorkel. If you’re into snorkeling, Hawaii will be your little piece of Heaven on earth. Its crystal clear blue water will allow you to see easily.

The natural beauty will leave you with quite an impression along the way. One place in particular that offers awesome snorkeling opportunities is Anini Beach.

Here you can find the largest reef on Kauai. With all of the underwater locations to explore around the reef, you will not be left with nothing to do. You could spend days exploring all that there is to see here. The tropical fish and marine life make for an interesting excursion.

The water in most places of Anini Beach is fairly shallow. This makes it a great place for beginners to start.

Even though the water is shallow, the tide can be very powerful at certain times.

So if it’s your first time, be careful. While it is good for beginners, even the most experienced snorkeling enthusiast will feel right at home on Anini Beach. There truly is something for everyone.

The reef is large enough that it affects the waves that come in at all times. What this means for you is the water will be calm, pretty much all the time. These are great conditions for those who like to snorkel.

If you’ve ever tried to snorkel in huge waves, it’s not an easy task…the calmer the water, the better. While it is calm in most areas of the beach, watch out for the outer edge of the reef. This creates some fairly large breaking waves.

There reef is sharp and there are slippery rocks as well. However, in the center of the reef, it is generally very calm.

Anini Beach is also very easily accessible. You can drive right up to the public parking area on the edge of the beach. They also have public restrooms and showers. You won’t feel like you’re on a deserted island, but it is peaceful and beautiful.

An interesting fact about the beach is that it didn’t used to be called Anini. In was once referred to as Wanini. Then in 1992 a hurricane knocked the “W” off of the sign. Instead of replacing the sign, they just referred to the beach as Anini. If that doesn’t support the “hang loose” philosophy of Hawaii, nothing does.

When you visit Kauai, be sure to invest a day of your trip at Anini Beach. The snorkeling is great and the natural beauty is even better. Just be sure to bring your snorkeling gear.
