Kauai's Waialua River Valley

The island of Kauai is home to some of the most beautiful and amazing scenery in the world. When seeing it for the first time, you will be left breathless. Its natural beauty is unsurpassed. With a lack of extreme development, it remains in a relatively natural state.

Although erosion has caused the volcano to become almost half of its original size, it looks much the same as it did hundreds of years ago.

On Kauai is a river called Waialua. It is a large body of water and is the only navigable river in all of Hawaii. There are many things to do and see in the Waialua River Valley. Taking a boat trip down the Waialua River is one of the more memorable experiences you can have.

The beautiful jungle and animals that you will see on the trip make it worth your while. Many people enjoy kayaking down the river, as well.

If you’re into skiing or wakeboarding, you’ll want to take a trip down the Waialua River. People are taking part in these activities on a daily basis.

The history of this river was very important to early Hawaiians. Along the river, they built many sanctuaries to their gods. These sanctuaries were called Heiaus.

Hawaiians came to these structures to worship their different gods. They also served different purposes throughout the years. One such Heiaus at the beginning of the river was a safe haven.

If someone was being chased for doing something bad, they could find solace here. Their followers could not attack them here under any circumstances.

For a very unique experience, you should consider visiting the Fern Grotto. This amazing site is located up the Waialua River via a 40 minute boat ride.

The Fern Grotto is basically a lava rock structure that is covered with beautiful ferns. Traditional Hawaiian musicians play in the natural amphitheater. The sound is great and the scenery is beautiful. Boats leave for this location about every 30 minutes and the cost is approximately $15 per person.

The chances to take great pictures along the way are worth the price of admission alone. You will not be disappointed on a trip to the Fern Grotto.

The Waialua River Valley is an experience unlike any other. Its natural look and feel make you feel as if you’re a part of history. When you visit Kauai, be sure to take a day trip to this beautiful jungle oasis.
