Kauai's South Shore Beaches
Lawa'i Beach
This is a great little beach, but during high surf conditions it can disappear! Generally it's a great area for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving.
And if you're hungry, the Beach House Restaurant is next to this little beach.
This stretch of coastline comprised three beach areas, Gillin's Beach, Kawailoa Bay, and Ha'ula Beach. It's a great area for exploring, just don't atempt to go swimming. There are few spots to enter the water and its generally choppy making it hazardous.
Gillin's Beach is located near the first parking area of Maha'ulepu beachs. Just take a short hike and you'll find yourself emerging from the trees on to a long white sand beach. This is a great place for a picnic because you won't find to many other visitors.
Snorkeling here is only for experienced people, due to the waves and currents.
Kawailoa Bay is easily the most rustic and private of the three Maha'ulepu beach areas.
When you have a calm day and can go snorkeling, Kawailoa Bay is an underwater Eden with an amazing amount of things to see. Because of its high surf and currents, only seasoned snorkelers should take in its underwater beauty.
With its small sandy entrance, barrier reef, and reef shelf you can expect to see an exciting variety of fish.
Here's a seculed beach where you're only competition is the occasional hourseback tour. Enjoy the solitude and forget about swimming.
Ha'ula Beach is backed by sand dunes and is a great place to watch local fisherman ply their craft.
Palama Beach
Palama Beach is a tough beach to get to and to get on to because of the permission required from Kauai Coffee. It's axiomatic that because of the difficulty getting access to this beach if you do make it - you'll find it quiet and generally deserted.
Poipu Beach is the South Shores major center for beach activity. Poipu Beach is widely acclaimed as Kauai’s safest beach, but it can be a bit crowded compared to other Kauai beaches.
Shipwreck Beach (aka Keoniloa Beach) is great for boogie boarding, surfing, and wind surfing.
Makawehi Point and is a popular fishing site and hiking is excellent along the cliffs and beach.

Ha'ula Beach Kauai
