Kauai's South Shore Beaches
Kauai’s South Shore is known for its exceptionally warm and sunny weather. The beautiful sandy beaches are a favorite spot for sun bathing, volleyball, and a wide variety of water sports.
Snorkeling and diving are great here because of the wonderful diversity of fish hiding among the intricate lava formations.
Here is a listing of the South Shore beaches you may want to visit with a short summary of each one.
Baby Beach
Baby beach is a wonderful spot for those fearful of the water. It's protected by a natural breakwater for a good stretch of the beach. The only piece of "equipement" you'll want to have along are surf shoes, because the sand of the beach only goes a few feet into the water before becoming a lining of lava stones.
Brennecke Beach
Brennecke Beach is the South Shore's best spot for beginning and advanced boogie boarding. This is due to the waves breaking both close to shore and far enough out to provide perfect conditions for the boogie board enthusiast.
And while you're out in the waves make sure to look for sea turtles. This beach is one of the best on the South Shore to see them playing in the surf.
Keiki Cove
Keiki Cove is a tiny stretch of beach just past Lawa'i Beach. It's a great place to let younger children experience the ocean because of its protection from the surf.
Kiahuna Beach
If you're looking for a picture perfect beach - this is it. Stay at the Sheraton Hotel and Kiahuna Resort and it's footsteps to this beach.
Great swimming here that's to an offshore reef, which also makes it a perfect boogie boarding and snorkeling spot as well. If you're into surfing you have two possibilities - outside the reef for the experienced surfer and inside the reef for the nephtye.
Koloa Landing
Here's your South Shore scuba destination. It's an old boat launch and the calm conditions and coral near shore make this a great place to test your scuba skills.
The excellent reef to the right of the shore and the shore wall to the left make it great place to experience the numerous fish and reef creatures of the area.
Lawa'i Bay
Lawa'i Bay is home to the National Tropical Botanical Garden. The foundation of this garden is from the mid-1800s, when Queen Emma built a vacation home on the bluffs overlooking this bay and planted the oceanfront property with her favorite plants.
Now, if you're into kayaking its only a mile from Kukui'ula harbor.
