Kauai North Shore Beaches
Makua Beach
Now this is how snorkeling should be! Makua beach is blessed with one of the largest reefs in the world, so expect to see scuba divers, surfers, and even windsurfers when the weather is perfect.
Gorgeous beach where you can enjoy swimming, just make sure it’s a calm day. Stroll to the southeast and you’ll find shade and spots to boogie board.
Now this is one of the nicest sandy beaches on the North Shore. You won’t find it crowded (since most folks don’t know about it) and the snorkeling is excellent on calm days.
Papa’a Bay
Remember the plane crash scene in the movie, “Six days/7 nights?” You’ve just found where it was filmed. Papa’a Bay is a visually stunning beach that unfortunately requires access via North Aliomanu beach.
Pu’u Poa Beach
Pu’u Poa Beach has a great, white sand beach located in front of the Princeville hotel. When it’s calm, swimming and snorkeling are your best bets.
This is actually a large pool fed by an inlet from the ocean. Good snorkeling on calm days with low surf.
SeaLodge Beach
Another one of the, “nobody knows its here,” beaches. The snorkeling can be amazing on calm days and don’t be surprised at coming face-to-face with a sea turtle.
Waiakalua Beach
Here’s another generally unknown beach. Snorkeling in the summer can be very good and if you happened to forget to bring water don’t worry. Beyond the rocky point, which divides the beach into two halves, is a cool fresh water spring. Enjoy!
Wyllie Beach
Highly shaded and just a wisp of a beach, it’s perfect for a nice, quiet stroll.
Now, with all those North Shore beaches to choose from, don't forget we still have the South, East, and West sections of Kauai to cover before you decide where to hit the beach!
