Kahili Quarry Beach Kauai

Kauai has so many beautiful beaches it is hard to know which one to visit. But if you want a beach more secluded than most, that narrows down the choices considerably.

One beach off the beaten track is Kahili Quarry Beach. To get to the beach, you take a dirt path off of N. Wailapa Road and wade across Kilauea Stream to reach the beach. As you can imagine, this keeps the beach less crowded as most tourists don't know it's there.

Kahili Quarry Beach is named for a quarry used during the plantation era that has been abandoned. Another feature that separates this beach from others is that Kilauea Stream empties into the sea at this point.

The stream hits a sand bar as it reaches the sea and forms a large pool good for swimming and fishing, when the water is calm and clear. If the water is murky, though, you want to avoid it as sharks and rip tides have been know to occur at this time. But it's a beautiful place to spend some time in the sun none the less.

When the water is calm and clear, swimming is very good on the left side and snorkeling is very good on the right side of the beach. When the seas are on the rough side, boogie boarding and surfing are good as well.

Rough or calm seas, the lagoon the beach is on provides a fantastic seascape panorama. If you enjoy fishing, Kahili Quarry Beach offers good fishing in the mouth of Kilauea Stream.

Locals often come to this beach to fish for a sleek, transparent fish called oio. This fish is often used for bait to catch other fish. so, fish for the fun of it or to catch a tasty meal.

Kahili Quarry Beach is known by several names. Some just call it Kahili Beach, others Quarry Beach and still others call it Rock Quarry Beach. Whatever you decide to call the beach, it's secluded and rarely frequented by tourists. So it is the perfect place to relax from the usual tourist attractions and really enjoy your vacation.

If your want a beach on Kauai where you can enjoy the sun, sand and surf without the crowds of the major resort beaches, this just might be what you are looking for. It is a good place to consider and part of your paradise vacation.

After spending several days sightseeing, shopping and maybe taking in some of the Islands' nightlife, kick back and relax in the sun for a day at Kahili Quarry Beach. Who knows, you may even have to beach all to yourself.
